Goth-pop sorceress Allie X, aka Alexandra Hughes, unveils her highly anticipated album, faceless girlmarking their first release since the acclaimed 2020 release. God of the Cape.
“I am delighted to announce my latest album, 'Girl With No Face'. This project holds a special place in my heart as it is the first album I have self-produced. At times, the journey felt arduous, almost as if survival itself was in doubt. However, here I am, not only alive but also I am delighted to share this announcement,” Allie reveals happily.
Reflecting on the deep effort invested in the album, he adds: “It is a challenge to encapsulate the essence of a work crafted over thousands of hours. In these tracks, you will find a narrative that explores both death and rebirth. This effort was to create something entirely from within myself, if only for “Prove to myself that I can. The songs are best described as angry, opinionated, honest, dry, melodramatic, fast and indulgent, much like the facets some people attribute to me. I hope you all enjoy them, but if not, maybe Turning Up the Volume could do the trick.”
With over a million monthly listeners on Spotify and hundreds of millions of streams, Allie X stands as a pioneer in music, constantly setting new trends as an artist, producer and songwriter.
Among the album's standout tracks, “Weird World” captivates with its synth-pop charm and danceable beat, elevated by Allie X's haunting vocals that transport listeners to a wonderfully quirky realm. The title track, “Girl With No Face,” cloaked in sinister tones reminiscent of Depeche Mode, conveys a sense of foreboding with Allie X’s delicately exaggerated vocals.
One of my favorites, “Off With Her Boobs,” explores the rejection of human flesh, suggesting empowerment through eradication. On “Hardware Software,” mechanical percussion merges with eerie synth colors, creating a cabaret atmosphere underscored by Allie X's breathy vocals.
“Black Eye”'s pulsating cadence and vibrant colors evoke the feel of the Phantom of the Opera, with Allie X singing passionately: “Oh, hit me with that super pain / 'Cause a hit feels like I'm dancing in the rain / Give me that beat / No need to cry / It's just a black eye.”
Bright and saturated with delicious recklessness, “Truly Dreams” showcases the breadth of Allie X's vocal prowess, navigating a sonic ladder with a variety of sliding tones. faceless girl presents an enchanting world where Allie X's voice is the cornerstone.
