Former President Barack Obama lost himself in the music on Tuesday night (October 22) at Kamala Harris and Tim Walz's rally in Detroit ahead of next month's 2024 presidential election.
The Detroit native rapper took the stage to introduce Obama at the event, telling the cheering crowd, “I'm here tonight for two reasons. As most of you know, the city of Detroit and my home state of Michigan mean a lot to me. Going into this election, the spotlight is on us more than ever and I think it's important to use your voice. So I encourage everyone to get out and vote please.”
He continued, “I also think people shouldn't be afraid to voice their opinions, and I don't think anyone wants an America where people worry about punishment or what people would do if you voice your opinion. I think Vice President Harris is advocating for a future for this country where this freedom and many others will be protected and upheld.”
Obama then took the stage, where he playfully told the audience, “I have to say, I've done a lot of rallies. So I don't usually get mad, but I felt like I was following Eminem in a way.”
The former president then began rapping Em's Hot 100 number one, “Lose Yourself,” noting that “His palms were sweaty, his knees weak/ Hands are heavy, I already puke on my sweater/ Mama's spaghetti / I'm nervous, but on the surface, I'm already calm.”
After deafening cheers, Obama joked, “I thought Eminem was going to play and I was going to jump out.”
