warning sign — Benny Blanco's banana pudding is so good SZA couldn't Ctrl herself around him. During an appearance on Monday's (April 29) episode of SiriusXM's Sporkoulis podcast, the producer told host Dan Pashman about the time the “Kill Bill” singer ate an entire record of his banana pudding while they were supposedly working on music together.
“We were at my house and he came down to get a drink and he saw something in the fridge,” Blanco recalled. “He had a bite. It was on a large sheet-like disk. And then, at the end of the day, there was no banana pudding left.”
“He would just like to sneak a bite,” she continued. “And then every time he came to the studio, he needed a banana pudding. Then it was like, “Oh, wait, what else are you making?” Then it was like, lasagna… We ended up cooking more than making music, you know?'
The “Eastside” musician — who worked on “Nobody Gets Me” and “Special” on SZA's 2022 Billboard 200-topping album warning sign — also revealed that he and the R&B pop star now have a “barter system” when it comes to food and music. “There was a moment when SZA said, 'I'm not coming unless you cook me spicy rigatoni,'” Blanco said. “And she was, like she was joking, but half serious. Because I will bark demands at her. I'll say, “We have to do this vocal.” And he says, 'We have to eat the spicy rigatoni!'”
The new interview comes ahead of Blanco's new cookbook Broadly, which hits shelves on Tuesday (April 30). When promoting the project in a Wall Street Journal Interviewed last week, the hit producer talked about how he and his girlfriend, singer-actress Selena Gomez, share their passion for food and enjoy making dinner for their families.
Blanco also told the publication that he was the “last to know” that he was in love with the Rare Beauty founder. “It's crazy how your partner can be sitting there all the time, right in front of your eyes, and you don't notice,” she recalls. “Then you have this Ignorant moment when you're like, “Wait, I'm in love.”
He later told SiriusXM that he and Gomez have yet to go on a double date with Taylor Swift. Only murders in the building The star's longtime best friend, and Travis Kelce — but recently fell for the “Anti-Hero” singer. “I just saw [Swift] in the [Los Angeles restaurant] Sushi Park a week ago,” he said. “I met her right before Coachella a week ago.”
