By all accounts, NBC Chicago A very Chicago New Year the transmission was a strange clock, thanks in large part to Billy Corgan. Not only did he make the opposite choice of singing “Summertime” in the dead of winter, but he also performed a whimsical new song inspired by the Windy City children's television classic, Wizzo the Wizard.
While appearing on the livestream from his Madame Zuzu's teahouse, the tuxedo-clad Smashing Pumpkins frontman debuted “Wizzo” while accompanied by the son in disguise by the late Marshall Brodien, who plays the current version of Bozo the Clown's sidekick.
“It's up to you to believe in magic,” Corgan sings in the song. Watch the performance and the full broadcast below.
Marshall Brodien appeared as an early version of Wizzo the Wizard on the WGN-TV children's show. Bozo's circusdeveloping the character along with his evolution towards The Bozo Show. He was also a magician and created the TV Magic Cards deck of trick cards. In March 2019 he passed away at the age of 84.
