From bodegas to cigar shops, Brooklyn may be hip, but don't think everything is as sweet as stevia around these parts.
Gothamist reports that a 37-year-old man was shot and killed around noon Monday (February 26) in front of a deli at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Lincoln Place in Crown Heights. According to police, the victim, identified as Nazim Berry, was shot in the head around 4:15 p.m. after arguing over a Black & Mild cigar. Medics took Berry to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

“I can't believe he's gone,” said Berry's mother, Danette Hollie, 58. “I can't believe this is happening now. I can not believe it. Really, you killed my son over a cigarette? Will you take me Nazim for a cigarette? Is his life worth a cigarette?'
Officers were seen investigating the scene of the shooting Monday afternoon, with a section of the sidewalk in front of a corner deli cut off from the public.
“He loved this store here, he loved coming to work with these people,” Holly said of her son, who had worked at the deli. “Beautiful man. When I say beautiful, I will miss him.”
Did you get killed because of a Black & Mild? We have to be better than this, man.
No arrests have yet been made as police continue to investigate Berry's murder.
