Belfast post-punk/electronic group Chalk announce EP 'Conditions II', set for release March 1 via Nice Swan Records (Sports Team, Pip Blom, English Teacher) and share the exciting new single 'Claw', out today (January 17).
Fresh from winning 'Best Live Act' at the NI Music Prize 2023, Chalk's relentless rise continues to gather exciting pace, with the EP's lead single 'The Gate' landing on the BBC 6 Music playlist (alongside PJ Harvey, IDLES, Sampha) to start. from 2024, while widespread praise across the press community (The Independent, NME, DIY, Dork, So Young, The New Cue, Rough Trade, Consequence of Sound) has certainly positioned the trio at the forefront of emerging indie elite.
Inspired by the ferocity and live performances of Dublin's guitar scene, along with the sweaty, harsh dance landscape of his native Belfast, Chalk have already sold out multiple dates across the UK and Europe in the last twelve months. , including highly praised spots at the Like Reeperbahn Festival and Beyond The Music. With 2024 promising to be even busier on the live front, the trio are set to head to the US for their SXSW debut in March ahead of their biggest UK headlining tour to date later that month.
The band's enigmatic frontman Ross Cullen explained before the reveal of their second EP: “Claw is about falling in love inside a nightmare. There is a mix of loss and relief that we wanted to capture. Subconscious feelings are at the center of most of our tracks, something we started on Conditions EP. We still feel like we're in that universe of discovering ourselves as people and using our sound palette to make sense of it. There are still some feelings we want to explore and staying in the world of Conditions is something we've learned to enjoy; “We don’t want to leave yet.”
