After the release of his new album CharmClairo has covered Lana Del Rey’s “Brooklyn Baby” for Spotify Singles.
Originally appearing on Lana Del Rey's 2014 sophomore LP produced by Dan Auerbach. Ultraviolence“Brooklyn Baby” serves as both a love letter from the artist and a satirical take on the Brooklyn “hipster” subculture that emerged around the time of her breakthrough success in the early 2010s. In our original review of UltraviolenceSasha Geffen called “Brooklyn Baby” “the most millennial song ever written.”
“Yeah, my boyfriend is pretty cool/ But he’s not as cool as me,” goes one of Lana’s original lines, sung with effortless aplomb in Clairo’s dreamy, slightly slower rendition. The cover may not have the bells and whistles she infused into the song’s ’70s-inspired arrangements. Charmbut it does feature Clairo's signature velvety vocals.
