Desert Daze 2024 has been cancelled due to “rising production costs and the current volatile festival market,” event organizers announced.
“As an independent festival, something that is increasingly rare in today’s festival market, Desert Daze is run by a small team of people who love live music and this community,” reads part of a corporate statement. “Unfortunately, due to rising production costs and the current volatile festival market, it is no longer possible to run the weekend as planned.”
In a separate statement to the Los Angeles TimesFestival founder Phil Pirrone also mentioned economic concerns. “We’ve tried everything to avoid this, but this is a tough year for everyone. That goes from food to production costs,” he said. “I think it goes beyond the music industry. I think everything is just too expensive right now. You know the cost of putting on an event, whether it’s a small festival or a big one, no one is immune to it right now. If you compare the cost of putting on a festival even a few years ago, line by line, it’s like, wow!”
The 2024 Desert Daze festival, headlined by Jack White, Cigarettes After Sex, Alex G, The Mars Volta and Thundercat, was originally scheduled to take place in Lake Perris, California, from October 10-13. It had marked the festival's return after a hiatus in 2023.
