We've all been there before. Stuck at home, reflecting on every bad thing that has ever happened in life and wondering how exactly we got here. Well, celebrities are just like us.
On Thursday morning (May 9), around 5 am. ET, Drake was watching his new Netflix show A man in full swing starring Jeff Daniels – about a real estate tycoon forced to defend his empire as he is on the verge of losing it all – when he felt the need to post a clip from the opening scene that hit too close to home.
In the clip, Daniels' character Charlie Crocker is lying on the floor thinking, “I don't mean this as a criticism… maybe I do. But when you die, will people notice? When I go, there will be many memories from many people. Even so, a person needs to live with vigor. Otherwise, what's the point?'
Sure it's dramatic to post at dawn, but it could mean a couple of things: Either he's admitting defeat in his incendiary lyrical partnership with Kendrick Lamar, or he's gearing up for another round, given the show's premise. The clip reminds me of the scene Carlito's Way where Carlito is on the stretcher realizing it's all over as he talks to himself.
Jay-Z reinterpreted this scene in his album intro Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life.
Regina King directed three episodes of it A man in full swing, including episode 1, titled “Saddlebags,” which features the clip posted by Drake. The show also stars Diane Lane and Lucy Liu and is based on the novel of the same name by Tom Wolfe.
