Ultra Music Festival's green efforts have been recognized by the prestigious World Sustainability Awards.
The World Sustainability Awards are an annual celebration of organizations that champion environmentalism in their strategic development. This year, Ultra was one of 13 winners from a pool of 220 applications from over 35 different countries around the world.
Ultra was named a global leader in environmental responsibility due to the “Mission: Home” initiative. According to Global Sustainability Leaders websiteThe Ultra Music Festival team has trained more than 1,000 of their colleagues on sustainability practices and the campaign has reached around six million people.
“Coming from a wide range of professional backgrounds, Ultra Music Festival's nimble but nimble sustainability team has worked with a host of partners both inside and outside the organization to drive tangible changes in areas ranging from eliminating [nearly] “90% of single-use plastics from your site to divert 180,000 pounds of waste from landfills and support local communities by donating food and drink,” reads the Global Sustainability Leaders. website.
The women-led “Mission: Home” program demonstrates the power of collaboration between Ultra staff, suppliers, community partners and festival-goers to champion festival sustainability.
“This speaks volumes about the power of music and the arts to call for collective action, and what better purpose than to protect our planet,” Vivian Belzaguy Hunter, Director of Sustainability at Ultra Music Festival, said in a press release.
