Pearl Jam wrapped up the spring leg of its 2024 US tour with an exciting show in Seattle on Thursday night. Among the many highlights was a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” performed solo by frontman Eddie Vedder.
“In no other city is there a guest list as big as we have when we're in Seattle,” Vedder said when introducing the song. “To be honest, I wish it was longer. There are certain names I deeply wish were on the guest list tonight, but we lost them too soon and in a way we could never imagine. Damn if I can't stop thinking about them. But that's also a good thing.”
Vedder's version of “Hurt” is much more in line with Johnny Cash's Grammy Award-winning ballad than it is with Nine Inch Nails' original. He has performed it solo several times over the years, but last night was the first time he did it during a Pearl Jam concert. The performance was part of an eight-song encore that also included “Inside Job,” “Running,” “Spin the Black Circle,” “Something Special,” “Alive,” “Rockin' the Free World” and “Setting Sol.” During the main part of the set, PJ also dusted off “Pilate” and “Love Boat Captain” for the first time on his current tour.
After heading to Europe for a packed summer of dates, Pearl Jam will return to the United States for more shows in late August. If you don't have tickets yet, you can pick them up here.
