Roxbury, Boston, Massachusetts veteran Edo.G joins forces with LA beatsmith Tone Spliff for his 5th EP. Signing to Mercury Records as the leader of Ed OG & Da Bulldogs, they would go on to release 2 albums together before disbanding and Ed himself eventually established himself as a solo artist releasing 4 EPs and 10 full-length LPs of his own. My favorites include his 3rd album My own worst enemy Produced by Pete Rock and his 6th album After all these years. However, learning that Tone was jumping behind the boards AudioO EDibles raised expectations as Edo's best EP.
After the title intro, first song 'Catch Up' starts us off with some ominous boom bam shit talking about building this empire, while 'Act of God' works in those instrumentals over kicks and snares asking who else do you know that can accomplish a feat like this. “Another Broken Heart” samples soul advising listeners not to be silly and let them break your heart, while the piano-driven “Hard 2 Get” talks about a woman who's hard to piss off. “Achieve” keeps it booming, explaining that it can't open a closed mind leading to “Someday”'s lavish plea to end gun violence, but then “Move Mountains” serves as a dusty closer that wants to it does just that as soon as it enters. the zone.
This self-titled collaborative effort that Edo.G did with Insight Innovates a few years ago confirmed to me that the two haven't lost a step yet, and have been hoping for a solo effort from him that I'd enjoy just as much. AudioO EDibles, I can say that the work is done. Tone Spliff's gives Ed some of the best production he's had in a while based on the traditional boom bam sound and the lyrics from the Roxbury Emcee provide thought provoking themes throughout.
