The office Co-creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant both took to social media to pay tribute to MacIntosh, who played the monotonous, egg-eating Scottish accountant so well that they turned what was a bit into a beloved character.
“So sorry to hear of the passing of Ewen MacIntosh, a wonderful and uniquely funny man who played accountant Keith on The Office,” Merchant wrote. “I remember happily asking him to improvise a message outside the office and he was so hilarious that we started writing more and more dialogue for him. Soon she was stealing every scene she was on. A completely unique one. Tragic loss. RIP.”
MacIntosh's 'Big Keith' also served as the inspiration for accountant Kevin Malone in the American version of The Office.
