The lights on Firefly Music Festival have gone out again after AEG Presents officially canceled the event for the second year in a row, the company announced Thursday.
AEG shelved last year's festival to “take a year to recharge our lights.” However, they said at the time that Firefly I would return to the Woodlands of Dover Motor Speedway in 2024.
Firefly organizers said this week that they hope to resurrect the festival “when the time is right,” but stopped short of teasing a 2025 return.
“Firefly Music Festival will not return in 2024,” Dennis Dennehy, director of communications at AEG, told Daily state news. “We hope to turn the Firefly lights back on someday when the time is right, but until then, The Woodlands will continue to host new music events for years to come.”
Firefly has remained a staple in the Northeast live music scene since its inaugural festival in 2012. Founded by Red Frog Events, the event was so successful that it was eventually acquired by AEG, the entertainment giant that runs Coachella, in 2018.
The final Firefly Music Festival of 2022 featured performances by Zedd, Porter Robinson, Gryffin, and John Summit, among other electronic music artists.
