The City Girlsrapper JTand Young Miami, was integral to the rise of women in Hip-Hop on the back of popular singles and the duo's sexy image. However, City Girls are no longer a group with JT and Yung Miami deciding to part ways, ending months of speculation of a rift between the pair.
In a new interview with ComplexYung Miami explained that she and JT were likely headed in different directions after the release of their last studio album, RAW, in the fall of 2023. According to Miami, the chemistry was off and it appears that the split was amicable for them the greater part.
From Complex:
At what point did you realize you wanted to do a solo project?
I think when the City Girls album [RAW] he just fell and didn't do too well, and we were just trying to do our press. The whole release of the album was so bad because we were in two different venues. We now grew up and she did her own thing. She's on the West Coast, I'm in Miami. I do my own thing. And I felt that of course, when she did her thing, it worked for her. And when I do mine, it worked for me. But when we got together as a team, they just weren't connecting. It just wasn't working anymore. So I think we were both at a point where we were just like, “We should probably just do our own shit.”
From what we can gather, the City Girls are now focused on their solo careers as evidenced by JT's national tour and Yung Miami promoting her new singles and video content.
Over on X, formerly Twitter, the group's fans had some things to say, and we've got reactions from all sides below.
