Future celebrated the ninth anniversary of his landmark third solo album DS2 yesterday by sharing the unreleased video for “Rotation,” with a caption that read, “Unreleased, 9 years later DS2 PLUTO is back.”
Directed by Rich Nyce, the video features Future at his local gas station with the gang, hanging out and drinking dirty Sprites as he brags about “putting a famous bh on rotation.”
He's been hinting at new music in mixtape form since May, a month after releasing his second No.1 album of the year We Still Don't Trust You with Metro Boomin. Fans initially thought he would be dropping on May 10, as he tweeted, “F—k yo album sh— not like my mixtape” followed by “May Tenth” and “Mixtatpe Pluto.” However, those tweets were actually about a Tee Grizzley song he appeared on.
In another twist, a few weeks later, he tweeted: “Can't sleep until #MIXTAPEPLUTO is done” and now says Pluto is back.
The future mixtape dropping before it ends in 2024 would arguably be the best year of his career. He and Metro released two No. 1 albums within a month of each other and also had a No. 1 single in “Like That” with Kendrick Lamar that started a historic association between Drake and some former collaborators that some refer to as the Rap Game Sinister. Six that included Future, Metro Boomin, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky and Rick Ross – a play by a band of comic book super-villains in the Spider-Man universe.
We'd consider ourselves lucky if we could make Mixtape Pluto make his triumphant return.
