Grimes apologizes for her Coachella 2024 set.
On Sunday morning (April 14), the 36-year-old musician took to social media to share a lengthy statement about major “technical issues” during her performance on the Sahara Stage at the Indio, California music festival on Saturday night .
“I want to apologize for the technical problems with the show tonight. I wanted to come back strong and I usually handle every aspect of my show myself – to save time this was one of the first times I outsourced basic things like rekordbox bpm and let someone else organize the tracks on the sd card etc. .”, Grimes began message to X (formerly Twitter).
“I had a bad feeling I hadn't run everything through the cdjs myself and if I pointed it out I didn't insist. the big lesson for me was a mix of 1 if you want it right do it yourself 2 do-t even if you feel bad 3 probably pretend it's fine and engage with the crowd instead of spending a whole show falling over from the office trying to fix software when you want to be fun.”
About halfway through her 50-minute set, Grimes had to restart “Music 4 Machines” several times because the track was playing at double speed.
“This always happens, all my tracks are twice as fast, so I don't mix very well, so I'll keep trying and I appreciate you being here,” he told the crowd. “There has never been a Grimes performance without significant technical difficulty. But yes, it will continue.”
Captivated by fans video from Grimes' Coachella set shows her crying out in frustration about the difficulties.
In her statement to X, she continued: “I will personally organize all the files next week. I won't let that happen again. I've spent months on this show, making music and visuals, and admittedly I'm not in the best of moods… But, yeah – next week is going to be flawless, it's all going to be out of my hands.”
Grimes closed her note, writing, “Some good lessons. Be blessed. My cdjs were showing bpm like 370 so I couldn't manually mix by ear and the front monitors were closed so it was literally sonic chaos at my end trying to guess what things sounded like to you… Please forgive me! Love, always.”
Day three of Coachella continues on Sunday (April 14) with performances from Doja Cat, J Balvin, Jhené Aiko, Lil Yachty and more.
