Grimes' Saturday concert at Coachella was plagued by “significant technical difficulties.”
The Canadian experimental pop musician took to the Sahara stage for what was supposed to be a 50-minute DJ set. However, about halfway through the process, Grimes was forced to restart “Music 4 Machines” several times, as the song was playing at twice the speed she had intended. The rest of the set was equally chaotic.
“This is a difficult thing to explain, but we are having a major technical error,” he told the crowd. “Don't judge me for being bad at calculating things.”
“All my songs are double tempo and I can't do the calculations. They're on the verge of not mixing, so the rest of my submissions won't be mixes, but it'll still be fun,” Grimes said at another point. She also let out several screams of anger.
In a social media post after the set, Grimes wrote, “I've spent months on this show, doing music and visual effects, and I admit I'm not in the best mood.” She attributed the technical difficulties to outsourcing “essential things like rekordbox bpm and letting someone else arrange the tracks on the SD card, etc.”, and promised that next weekend's set would be “flawless, it will all pass.” by my hands.”
