The ultimate power couple is back. Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton teamed up on Friday (February 9) to release their newest duet, the retro “Purple Irises.”
The song comes just two days after the couple announced the track featuring the 1970s-inspired cover, which features Stefani lounging on a couch in a denim jumpsuit, chunky heels, and bra, while Shelton sits on a chair in jeans and a denim shirt with leather epaulettes while banging a guitar.
“But if someone comes and tries to love you like I love you/ I don't know what I'd do/ I don't wanna lose you/ If someone comes and tries to take you, they try to make you/ Don't let them change your mind/ You wonder why did you take a chance/ In a broken heart you can't mend/ No, I never knew love like this/ Now we're picking purple irises,” the pair sing on the country pop ballad.
“Purple Irises” is hardly the lovebirds' first musical collaboration. The announcement of the latest duet comes just days after Shelton called it quits on his six-piece album/love-language-ep/1727717234″ target=”_blank”>Language of love EP, featuring Stefani's previous collaborations “Nobody But You” and “Happy Anywhere”, as well as “God Gave Me You”, “Sangria”, “Honey Bee” and “A Guy With a Girl”. The duo also released their holiday hit, “You Make It Feel Like Christmas,” in 2017.
Shelton and Stefani met on set The voice, when they were both coaches on the reality singing competition series. They tied the knot in 2021 and have been going strong ever since.
