Have you really lived to get a dance around Madonna? Just ask Amy Schumer.
In a new interview with The Associated Pressthe comedian hilariously recounts taking the stage with the Queen of Pop during her ongoing holiday tour.
“I didn't know I was going on stage, that's the truth,” he told the interviewer and Zoe & Beth co-starring Michael Cera. “An hour before the show, I was backstage with some of her team and a choreographer came up to me and… I thought it was funny! And then I realized, “Oh, I'm going up on stage with her and I'm going to dance around.”
Dances around – and similarly sensual choreography – are a staple of Madonna's latest tour, as are celebrity appearances on stage. Before Schumer, the queen of pop brought out stars like Diplo, Donatella Versace and FKA twigs during the show's ballroom. Madonna invited Schumer on stage during her show at Madison Square Garden in New York on January 23. The two stars judged Madge's dancers as they took to 'Vogue'. eventually, the beam turned to screeching as Madonna wrapped her legs around a dancer while Schumer's face was temporarily frozen in shock.
Amused and excited by Schumer's story, Cera quipped, “Did you need a choreographer for that?” In response, Schumer replied: “They just want to make sure that, first of all, there is consensus. And also that you're not going to freak out because you're on The Garden stage, you know?'
Of course, this is not Madonna's time in the lap-dance area — who can forget her suffocating sima for Maluma in 2022? — but Amy Schumer can now join her in that arena. “Twice, no big deal!” she teased. “But it was amazing, and God I love her so much. Everyone should see this show.”
The Celebration tour — which has hit a steady pace after a particularly rocky start that saw production delayed due to the “Hung Up” singer's hospitalization — is set to continue over the next two months, stopping in major cities like Las Vegas (March 1-2), Los Angeles (March 4-11) and Houston (March 28-29) before concluding with five shows at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City (April 20-26).
