Hovvdy are back and have announced a new self-titled double album and a series of UK and European tour dates in 2024. The band have also shared the latest single from the album, “Forever”.
Out April 26th via Arts & Crafts, Hovvdy will be the Austin, Texas indie duo's fifth full-length studio album following 2021's. True love. The new album, spanning 19 tracks, was co-produced by Hovvdy's Charlie Martin and Will Taylor, along with Andrew Sarlo (Bon Iver, Big Thief) and Bennett Littlejohn.
Speaking of HovvdyMartin cited themes of family and empathy as influential factors. “It's full circle, because a lot of my songs, as an adult, are about looking back and seeing your parents as individuals struggling through life, and trying to have more empathy or understanding,” he said in a statement. . “And now Will is coming in from the opposite side as a new father, dealing with all of that.”
For her part, Taylor echoed Martin's sentiment, explaining how the duo “really tried to step back and look: How can we convey our songwriting in a new way?” Ultimately, that new approach “challenged the songs we brought out and challenged me to be more vulnerable,” Taylor explained. “We're trying to expand and create a tapestry of everything we can do,” Martin added. Pre-orders for Hovvdy are in progress.
The new single, “Forever,” speaks to Hovvdy’s sensitive sensibility. The opening lines offer a respite: “Baby, take a break/ You know you've been going crazy/ How I want to cool you down/ Like your favorite season with the windows closed,” while the chorus's hook echoes the narrator's theme. affection with which “they will fall in love forever.”
“Forever” arrives alongside a music video directed by Michael Rees and starring comedians Veronika Slowikowska and Kyle Chase. Watch it below.
In support of the new album, Hovvdy is set to embark on an international tour, beginning with a previously announced North American leg in support of Cold War Kids beginning later this month in San Francisco; get tickets for those dates here.
Then in May, Hovvdy will cross the pond for a tour of the UK and Europe, ending in Germany in June. Tickets for the international dates go on sale this Friday, February 2 via Ticketmaster. You can also find offers through viagogo.
