The rapper, who was born on January 1, 2000, named her upcoming album in honor of her birthday
Less than a week after releasing her first track of the year, the aptly titled “Think U the Sh*t (Fart),” Ice Spice has announced that her upcoming debut album will be titled Y2K and it falls this year.
During one Today interview with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on Tuesday, the Bronx-born rapper revealed that her new record is named after her birthday, January 1, 2020. Ice Spice previously hinted at the name of her new project in November with one Instagram photo of a back tattoo along with the cryptic message “Y2K! ?/?/24.”
“It's almost done. I'm really excited,” Ice Spice said during Tuesday's segment. “I have a crazy collaboration that just closed two days ago,” he teased when asked about the new project, but stopped short of revealing exactly what that feature might be.
Earlier this month, Rolling rock listed Ice Spice's upcoming debut album as one of the top 10 rap albums to look forward to in 2024.
Last year, Ice Spice released “Pretty Girl” with Rema following her EP Like..? The surprise 15-minute EP included tracks like “Deli,” “In Ha Mood” and “Princess Diana” featuring Nicki Minaj. She also joined Minaj for “Barbie World” from Barbie soundtrack, collaborated with Taylor Swift on a remix of “Karma” and collaborated with PinkPantheress on “Boy's a Liar Pt. 2.” Last year, Ice Spice also won Best New Artist at the 2023 MTV VMA Awards.
The announcement of her upcoming album comes two weeks after Duval “D.Chamberz” Chamberlain and Kenley “Kass the Producer” Carmenate accused Ice Spice of copyright infringement on “In Ha Mood.” Carmenate claimed that the superstar drill and Riot producer “copied” the title, hook, chorus, phrasing and beat of “In That Mood” without permission or proper credit. Ice Spice has yet to respond to the suit.
