With nearly 35 million streams, one of Ireland's most prolific and exciting young artists, Malaki, is delighted to announce the release of his hugely powerful single, 'Long Face'. This deeply honest song showcases one of the island's best talents.
Fresh from the release of his recent single, 'Most Days', the first in a collection of new tracks, in October last year, Malaki has had key support from BBC Radio One's Jack Saunders, BBC ATL Introducing, BBC 5 Live, RTE 2FM. , The Independent, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash Magazine, Notion and Earmilk to name a few. He also appeared on the Irish show The Late Late Late Show and performed his first sold-out show in London.
A raw talent who isn't afraid to share his vulnerable side, Malaki's music fuses personal expression with penetrating social and political commentary. He is already making waves both in his home country and in the UK.
At 22, Malaki is an eyewitness to the disenfranchisement of Irish youth, a topic discussed frequently on 2020's brutally honest and hard-hitting debut EP, Butterfly Boy.
A five-track EP, 'DFTTYM' (Don't Forget To Take Your Medicine), followed in 2021, featuring Malaki's alter ego Calvero, who immediately gave us a taste of what was to come as he walked the edge itself. of sanity bewildering depression, anxiety, self-medication and primal fear with morbid fascination, followed by the release of 'Never Mind' and their latest single 'Most Days'.
Of the single, Malaki said,
“Long Face” is an introspective dive into the character's mind. For me, it describes the reasons for the way I am and how I cope. Using writing and music to talk about things I have locked away. It is the clarity of the fog. When we are in depressive states, we become blinded by our pessimism and negativity. This is me walking away from a confusing depression, detailing the experience and how I can improve. This track is fiery and passionate, with moments of desperation. But for me, this is a song of optimism and change. If you ever ask yourself, “Why the long face?” Try to take a look at who's inside. It may surprise you.
I started this journey in 2019. I was 19 years old and had just come out of a dark depression. I was a shell of a human being clinging to any joy I could find. Fortunately, I had music and writing. I never really considered myself an artist. I just enjoyed writing songs. It wasn't until I wrote the powerful spoken epic “Call Us By Our Names” that it spoke to the frustrations and anger I had in my mind at the time. I did not know. Many people felt the same. Music gave me a reason to keep going. And the response to my first single gave me a reason to keep writing. Music has allowed me to not only travel the world and play incredible shows, but it has also given me solace, therapy, and purpose. In every track I create, I leave a part of me inside it. I hope you enjoy my art.”
