Jennifer Lopez has revealed how growing up with a “narcissistic mother” and absent father meant she didn’t receive enough love as a child.
The singer reflected on her childhood in new documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
“When I was growing up I was always looking for somebody to make me feel loved,” she said. “I was a middle child, not the baby, not the first born … you just kind of get lost a little bit in between it all.”
The 54-year-old also talked about her parents and how their behaviour affected her.
“I felt very ignored by my dad because he was always working nights, then all day he would sleep and I didn’t feel like I had enough of a connection with him,” she said. “My mom was narcissistic, centre of the attention, life of the party-type person.”
It’s not the first time the This Is Me…Now singer has talked about her relationship with her mother, Guadalupe Rodriguez.
“My mom is a super complicated woman and she carries a lot of baggage, she wanted us to be independent and never have to rely on a man,” Lopez previously said in Netflix documentary, Halftime.
Jennifer, 54, has reconciled with both parents now, although neither of them appeared in the documentary.
