John Legend showered his wife Chrissy Teigen with love and support after she shared her abortion story with US Vice President Kamala Harris.
The music superstar took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message with a clip of his model and TV presenter wife speaking about reproductive rights at the White House.
“Proud of my wife for being a brave leader and a great listener on this issue,” the Grammy winner wrote. “She led a powerful conversation on reproductive rights at the White House.”
Teigen tearfully shared her experience of having an abortion at the Feminist Women’s Health Centre in Atlanta, Georgia.
“It doesn’t have to be this place of darkness that’s scary and the level of comfort I felt just being at your clinic was so incredible and so beautiful and something I actually wished for myself, I found it to be such a beautiful place, that it was just so, so, special,” she said.
The conversation coincided with the second anniversary of the US Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, meaning the right to abortion is no longer constitutionally protected.
In 2020, Teigen shared the news that she had a miscarriage at 20 weeks, losing her son, Jack, during a pregnancy beset by complications.
Two years later, she revealed it was actually an abortion that she said saved her life.
“Let’s just call it what it was: It was an abortion. An abortion to save my life for a baby that had absolutely no chance.”
