This is the debut EP from Oakland emcee joMi. Someone who made his presence known in northern California working with Dizzy Wright, Demrick, 80 Empire & ¡MAYDAY! for over 5 years at this point. He even has a full-length debut under his belt called Samo since 2018 over a collaborative album with G. Cardona & Gran Elyan a year and a half ago. However, in light of signing to Soulspazm Records, it's only right for joMi to be properly introduced to Very close.
“Cardona” is an emotional trap-opener that talks about getting out of that familiar place often, and after “My Brother's Keeper,” the sketch, Sunny gives off a cold, psychedelic vibe talking about doing right and even asking sorry for not being this excited before. The song 'Debo's Watch, Pt. 2″ delves into that whimsical sequel to Samo's trap closer, and after the interlude “Fallin' Through the Sky,” “Eye Sell” ends the EP on a dumb note that asks who you have time to liken it to demons in tightrope trying to break free despite the fact that time is slow.
Very close It would be a good place to start joMi's discography, considering how much it tells new listeners that this is a guy who's been dealing with inner growth and inner turmoil all along. The production is a level above Samo as it teaches that if you ever get too close to something; you may harm this relationship/object or harm yourself.
