Justin Timberlake's latest album, Everything I thought I was bridges the gap between nostalgia and the newness of now, courtesy of Calvin Harris's Midas touch.
Timberlake's latest marks his big comeback since 2018 forest mantaking fans on a journey that weaves past and present into a new offering of dancefloor-ready anthems.
His collaboration with Harris begins with “F**ckin' Up The Disco,” a track that immediately lights up the dance floor with a confident sense of disco rhythm and dynamism. Harris masterfully weaves twinkling synths and funky plucks through the track's structure, enveloping Timberlake's vocals in an angelic vocoder effect that elevates the song to heavenly heights.
The next song, “No Angels,” also features production from Harris and better encompasses some of the album's central themes: letting go and getting lost on the dance floor. Harris' production adapts to the moment, completely encapsulating the essence of contemporary dance music and transforming the space into a sanctuary of freedom and fleeting moments.
Completing the trifecta of Harris productions, “Infinity Sex” turns the funky tone up to eleven. The song is imbued with disco-centric production and effects that flirt with Timberlake's smooth and charming delivery, creating a fun yet sensual atmosphere that is irresistibly groovy.
Between the efforts of the two powerful artists, Everything I thought I was It stands as a celebration of collaboration and the lasting power of a good beat. In addition to Harris, the album features production from Louis Bell, Cirkut and, of course, Timbaland, among others.
