The track comes weeks after the release of “Straight Line” earlier in February
Keith Urban released a second single off his upcoming 12th album, releasing “Messed Up As Me” on Friday.
The new track follows his upcoming album's lead single 'Straight Line', which was released in early February and hints at his first album in four years.
As Urban said, “Messed Up As Me” is about toxic relationships that aren't easy to get out of. The single's artwork itself shows a somewhat racy image of a couple hitched to the back of a truck driving down the highway. Along with Urban, the single was produced by the singer's longtime collaborator Dan Huff, who has produced most of Urban's music since Golden Road In 2002.
“Most of us have had dysfunctional relationships in the past where there's not a lot of compatibility, except in one area where it's so good that you put up with everything else,” Urban said of the new song in a statement. “One phone call or a night out and you're back where you shouldn't be.”
Urban's latest album, The Speed of Now Part 1, was released in 2020. The new album, which is expected to be released sometime later this year, is still untitled. While Urban has not released an album since then Part 1, He has dropped several singles such as “Wild Hearts”, “Night Falls” and “Brown Eyes Baby”.
When “Straight Line” was released, Urban said that each song on the upcoming LP “carries an energy and a life force made very strong through the line. I hope you feel it. I'm so excited for everyone to hear the whole thing.”
