Kevin Jonas is currently on the mend after doctors removed a spot of skin cancer from his forehead — and he wants to remind fans to stay safe, too.
In an Instagram video posted on Tuesday (June 11), the Jonas Brothers rocker revealed that he was recently diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, which required surgery to have it removed. “Yeah, this is a real little guy with skin cancer that's starting to grow,” he says in the clip just before his procedure, giving the camera a close-up of a reddish spot near his hairline.
Jonas also snapped a post-surgery shot of his bandages, as well as his return from the hospital. “I'm all done,” he says in the car. “Now it's time to heal. I am going home. Make sure you check out those moles, people.”
In his caption, the Camp Rock the star doubled down on its message. “Friendly reminder to check your moles,” she wrote.
According Mayo Clinic, the type of cancer Jonas was treated for starts in basal cells, which are responsible for making new skin cells as old ones die. Believed to be caused by long-term exposure to the sun's UV rays, it often appears as a slightly translucent bump on the skin, but it can take other forms.
The “Sucker” musician's process comes amid a break in the Jonas Brothers' tour. Kevin and brothers Joe and Nick will continue the tour in August with a run of shows in Mexico before heading overseas for a European leg.
