Killer Mike will not be charged after his February arrest at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
After emerging victorious from the pre-televised Grammy show with three awards — best rap album with MICHAEL and Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance with “SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS” featuring André 3000, Future and Eryn Allen Kane — Killer Mike was arrested outside the Peacock Theater (where the pre-telecast took place before the main ceremony at Crypto .com Arena) due to a fight between him and a security guard over his credentials. At the time, Render was initially booked on a misdemeanor charge and was released without bail.
“A lot happened and there was some confusion around the door that me and my team had to enter. We experienced an overzealous security guard, but my team and I have every confidence that I will eventually be cleared of any wrongdoing,” he said in part of the statement he issued shortly after his arrest.
TMZ reported Wednesday (June 26) that the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office said it would not press charges against the rapper (real name Michael Render). After completing a hearing with his attorney, he agreed to do community service with a nonprofit organization of his choice, according to TMZ.
“All my heroes were in handcuffs – Malcolm, Martin, Mandela, Medgar,” he said during an appearance on February 12 The view, eight days after his arrest on Music's Biggest Night. “I left with the same dignity and respect that I came in with and I would ask people to take that.”
