Lana Del Rey has been teasing her next album for months Lasso will be a country record, but if you're wary of yet another superstar going the more radical route, fear not—the alt-pop star promises it won't be too different from her past work.
In a new interview with Fashion before her headlining performance at the Rock en Seine music festival in Paris On Wednesday (August 21), Del Rey gave assurances that her signature sound will still underpin her upcoming project. “All my albums are kind of rooted in Americana, unless it's like an album Honeymoon which has a jazzy feel to it, so I don't think it's going to be a heavy departure,” he told the publication.
“If anything, it's just going to be a little bit lighter lyrically and more of a classic country, Americana or Southern Gothic production – which again, so many of my songs already are.”
Although it doesn't have a set release date yet, Lasso will follow last year's Did you know there is a tunnel under Ocean Blvd?which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Del Rey initially told fans to expect the new project this September, announcing its title in January at the Billboard x NMPA Songwriter Awards. (“We're going country,” he said at the time. “It's happening.”)
From Ocean Blvdthe “Summertime Sadness” musician released a string of singles including “Say Yes to Heaven,” “Lost at Sea” and “Hollywood Bowl” with her father, Rob Grant, “Suburban House” with Holly Macve and a cover of John Denver's 'Take Me Home, Country Roads'. Most recently, he dropped “Tough” with Quavo, which he says will follow up with not one, but two more singles in the coming months.
While speaking to Fashionteased: “We've got two more coming out by the end of the year!”
