Corey Harris, a Michigan man who is set to actually appear in court for a hearing, certainly didn't do himself any favors earlier this month before meeting with the judge. Mr Harris, who has a suspended license, called into the hearing while driving, prompting the judge to react with disbelief.
Corey Harris, 44, was scheduled to speak with Washtenaw County Judge Cedric Simpson and was summoned to the hearing via Zoom while driving a vehicle. As reported by the Detroit outlet WXYZHarris was charged with driving with a suspended license in October 2023. Assistant State's Attorney Natalie Pate presented the case to the judge, and the Zoom call began with Harris simply driving without worrying about visuals.
Harris surprised Judge Simpson after he asked the judge to briefly park his vehicle after explaining that he was heading to his doctor's office. After a moment, Judge Simpson could not believe what he was seeing.
“No, I'm looking at his record. He doesn't have a license. He's suspended and he's just driving,” Simpson says, trying to keep his cool. Simpson added: “I don't even know why he would do that.”
Rather than continue the hearing, Judge Simpson revoked Harris' bond and ordered Harris to surrender by 6pm that day. As the Detroit News added in his report, Harris was scheduled to appear in court in connection with the suspended license case.
Corey Harris will be back in court on June 5th, hopefully taking an Uber or getting a lift from a friend.
