In this week's episode of In defense of ska, members of ska supergroup Mutiny – Efrem Schulz (Death by Stereo, Voodoo Glow Skulls), Chris Ruckus (Dissidente) and Mike Cambra (Death by Stereo, Adolescents) – discuss the project and its connection to their other bands. Listen above or wherever you get your podcasts.
Let's make one thing clear: ska needs more supergroups. Aside from Rude Girl Revue and Kilograms, they're surprisingly hard to come by. Luckily, Mutiny is here to remedy that! The seven-piece band is made up of members of Death by Stereo, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Dissidente, Manic Hispanic and Adolescents, and their songs feature guests from even more bands.
The group released their self-titled debut EP on SPI Records in February, despite not all being in the same room at the same time. But we reunited three of the members In defense of ska to talk about the project and its connection to all the other related bands.
In addition to informing listeners of everything there is to know about Mutiny and their upcoming plans for the Supernova International Ska Festival, Schulz, Ruckus and Cambra explore various aspects of the current statuses of their other projects. Schulz offers a correction to his bandmate and former guest Ian Fowles about the history of Death by Stereo and showcases Manic Hispanic's new ska songs (parodies of “A Message to You Rudy” by The Specials and “Time Bomb” by Rancid).
