Marking the first single from his upcoming studio album, Ryan Castro surprised his fans with his first salsa tune named after his alterego, “El Cantante del Ghetto.” “Loves like yours are not bought, they are not compared, they are not known/ If I gave everything for this relationship to last/ Look me in the face and tell me you don't know me,” the Colombian reggaetón star sings in what is also a a tribute to the late salsa icon Héctor Lavoe.
Another artist who also released a tribute track was Nicky Jam, who played Trueno for “Cangrinaje.” Produced by Jorge Milliano, the song celebrates reggaetón's vieja escuela beats and samples Nicky's 2002 track “Mi Yal Eres Tú” featuring DJ Playero. On the collaboration, the Argentinian rapper brings a fresh and modern twist, effortlessly alternating between his melodic vocals and fiery rap lyrics.
Meanwhile, Colombian newcomers Tei Shi and Damian have released new studio albums. The ex me Valerie, a bilingual 13-track set that navigates her life experiences and rediscovers her artistic and personal essence through R&B, indie and pop beats. The last one with El Tropical Feeling (Vallenato & Cumbia Edition)a 10-track set that the artist describes as a love letter to his native Colombia.
