Tim Allen has been hinting at the possibility of a Home improvement reboot for years, even saying last fall that he had “raised the idea” with some of his former co-stars. Now, however, Patricia Richardon (who played her on-screen wife, Jill Taylor) has claimed that she was “never ever” asked about the possibility of a reunion, but that she “wouldn't want” to do it even if so out.
Richardson's comments stemmed from his recent appearance on Back to the best podcast, where he explained that it was “very strange” to hear that Allen was “coming out publicly and saying things about everyone being on board to make a Home improvement meeting,” although she and Jonathan Taylor Thomas “were never asked” about it.
“One day I called Jonathan and said, 'Has he asked you about this?'” Richardson said. “He said, 'No.' So why does he say everyone agrees when he hasn't talked to you or me?
Among the reasons Richardson offered for why she wouldn't be interested in the reboot were concerns about Zachery Ty Bryan's legal problems. In 2020, he was arrested for allegedly strangling his then-girlfriend, and in 2023 he was arrested for felony assault, just a month after it was reported that he owed $50,000 in a crypto scam.
Additionally, Richardson noted that Taylor's two other boys, Thomas and Taran Noah Smith, have stepped away from the spotlight, and Earl Hindman, who played Wilson, died in 2003.
“I mean, Zach is a criminal now,” Richardson said. “Taran [Noah Smith] hasn't acted since leaving the show; He is no longer an actor. And Jonathan isn't really interested in acting. He wants to direct and write. And we don't have Wilson.”
Richardson also alluded to a Home improvement “script” floating around the Internet, which read, “I wrote something important on Twitter and said I'm not involved in any series with Jill and I've never been asked to do another one.” Home improvement reunion thing, but I wouldn't like it.”
As for Allen's hopes of bringing Home improvement back, at least he clarified that he “[couldn’t] say all” was involved in the meeting when he talked about the possibility last fall. However, considering Pamala Anderson's claims that Allen showed her off on set, and the video showing that he showed Richardson in her underwear, it's not too hard to imagine more reasons why Richardson wouldn't be interested in returning.
