Peso Pluma's Double P Records has signed a worldwide management deal with Downtown Music Publishing, Advertising sign has learned.
As global manager for the label's publishing arm, the company will also provide syndication to Double P Records' current and future releases, as well as management for Peso Pluma's publishing interests, including his latest double album. Exoduswhich reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200.
The company and publisher were founded in April 2023 by Peso and his manager George Prajin. Besides Peso, it also hosts Música Mexicana singers and composers Jasiel Nuñez, Tito Double P and Estevan Plazola. “We look forward to joining forces with Downtown and continuing to expand our partnership,” said Prajin, CEO of Prajin Parlay and co-founder of Double P Records. “I'm sure we'll do great things together.”
While Peso isn't the first regional Mexican act to join Downtown's roster (including Luis R Conriquez and Código FN), the collaboration reflects the ever-increasing overall interest in a genre that has experienced exponential growth in the past year alone, in part Spearheaded by Peso Pluma. Local Mexican music is now the largest Latin subgenre in the US, according to Luminate's Midyear Music Report 2024.
The development of Mexican music is something Ben PattersonDowntown Music's president of artist and label services, is watching while also “tripling” his genre-focused staff. “First and foremost investing in customers,” he says of adapting to the changing landscape. “Having resources—financial, creative and human—to support global demand. Ensuring we remain as responsive and reactive as possible in creating commercial support, organic and ad-driven audience growth and marketing strategies that match the label, artist or project. This is a complete focus of the company.”
The deal, he adds Jed Katrantza, chief commercial officer of Downtown Music Publishing, is “reiterating what independent music culture can be like — shaping the future of so many other artists and songwriters.” Most recently, Katrancha and his team scored Peso's “TEKA,” an Apple TV spot for the 2024 Leagues Cup between MLS and Liga MX.
“That's what we're excited about, to bring to the market mainstream global brands that look at what Peso is doing and want to be a part of it, if in a really authentic way,” he says. “This is really encouraging and we're just scratching the surface.”
