Singer-songwriter Pete Muller is preparing for his sixth studio album, More time, available this Friday (May 17). Before launch, Consequence has an exclusive premiere of the opening track, “And (Hold On),” and its accompanying music video.
Beginning with a vibrant Rhodes piano riff, “And (Hold On)” was inspired by the “conflict between being an artist and a good husband/father,” as Muller explains to Consequence. “Instead of choosing one or the other, I choose to choose both: hold on to what you want AND hold on to what you have.”
The song was recorded in Memphis with producer/engineer Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price) and features contributions from former Wilco drummer Ken Coomer, guitarist Will Sexton, organist Rick Steff and bassist Dave Smith.
“Everyone learned the song the day we recorded it, and Will came up with a crazy, unexpected guitar riff that really makes the song come to life,” Muller recalls. “My friend Eric Donnelly added a killer guitar solo that starts after the bridge.”
To film the Chris Morgan-directed music video, Muller rented a classic red 1969 Buick Skylark convertible and took more than two dozen trips down a winding mountain road above Santa Barbara with different passengers, including bandmates, friends and his daughter. and his friends.
“It makes me smile every time I see it,” Muller says. Look at the image below.
More time also features the duo “Running out of love” with Lisa Loeb. Other previous singles include the main track and “Decline.”
