Porno for Pyros recently wrapped up their “Horns, Thorns En Halos” farewell tour and have now released their latest song, a track called “Fingernail.”
“Fingernail” is one of three new songs Porno for Pyros recorded last year and follows the release of the tracks “Agua” and “Little Me.” Each of the tunes was written in the '90s, but was never properly recorded at the time.
Like the other two tracks, “Fingernail” features the original Porno for Pyros lineup of singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Peter DiStefano, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Martyn LeNoble.
“The moment the melody touched the lyrics, I knew it was going to be a special song,” Farrell said of “Fingernail,” adding. “But I was too immature to understand the essence fully.”
He continued: “There is no pain in cutting our hair, eyelashes or a nail, because they are dead, although the world is renewed every moment. The death we carry within is expelled and the soul is restored again.”
LeNoble, who decided not to join the band on the farewell tour, commented: “On 'Fingernail' I hear our lives and theirs. Decades of growth. Happiness, heartbreak, tension, loss and joy… growing pains. In this case, it took almost 30 years for this song to slowly grow into what it is now. And the way the song ends…. I love redemption songs. I would say we finished well Perry, Peter and Stephen.”
Porno for Pyros reunited after a quarter of a century to play select shows in 2022. Their recent farewell tour featured bassist Mike Watt, who had actually replaced LeNoble in the band in 1995, before their breakup in 1998. .
Strong consequences I caught one of the final shows, a concert on March 7 in Port Chester, New York. Check out the final song, “Fingernail,” and our photo gallery from the Port Chester show below.
