The debut EP Monochrome Out June 14 via Position Music

Nashville-based up-and-coming indie singer/songwriter Hunter Metts makes brooding and pastoral alt folk, with gentle vocal melodies and intimate instrumental arrangements. He's been sharing a string of new singles over the last couple of years and is set to return next month with his debut EP, Monochrome, out June 14 via Position Music. Ahead of the record's release, Metts returns today with the EP's self-titled track, premiering with Under the Radar.
“Monochrome” is a sweet and soulful effort, one that taps into Metts' melancholic side and showcases his penchant for extended melodies. The track opens in a quiet and intimate space, but steadily builds into a swirling finale, shadowing the track in swells of strings and echoing guitar tones. Although much of the track is sparse instrumentally, the production leaves it clean and poignant, adorned with catchy melodies and elegant lyrics. Metz follows the slow decay of a relationship, singing “I sit here / I'm cold / Tonight I feel like a shadow… Tell me it's the end if we lose light / I don't want a love in black and white / Where nothing grows / We die slowly / And it turns monochrome.”
Metts says of the piece, “I wanted Monochrome to capture the feeling of the end of a relationship, where everything seems dull and lifeless. I tried to sonically reflect the gray, stagnant feelings of knowing you have to move on.”
