Premiere: Joe George Shares New Single 'Stone's Throw'
Announces new LP POPULAR CINEMA It will be released late this summer

Singer/songwriter Joe George debuted in 2018 with his album Beautiful dreams and followed in 2022 with his sophomore effort, Golden afternoon, both of which saw the songwriter and composer evoke nostalgic, sunny indie and folk styles. In between his songwriting, George also kept busy as a composer, earning an Emmy nomination for his work on the documentary series. Watching Brave一and as a host for the YouTube music channel, REVERB.
Today George announces news of yet another new LP, POPULAR CINEMA. As he describes, “POPULAR CINEMA it's a place where songs, stories, sounds come together — rooted in folk and expressed through a new lens, refocused through a new spotlight, combining modernity and nostalgia. These characters are in simple places, a stone's throw from the people they care about most. they discover that these resounding emotions pierce the hearts of their friends, their families. These experiences are combined in a soft serve that could be described as “adult lullabies” or “good dream ballads”.
To accompany the announcement, George also shared a new single, “Stone's Throw,” which premieres with Under the Radar.
“Stone's Throw” finds George in suitably cinematic fashion, dressing up a reflective folk tune with expansive arrangements and widescreen production. The lyrics act as a tribute to being present with those you love, imbuing the track with an intimate glow. While the core of the track lies in the easy acoustic chords and open-hearted lyricism, George also colors the edges of the track with swaying synth tones and shimmering electronics. He brings a golden instrumental warmth to every element of the track, letting each part intertwine with the other until they reach from a reflective simmer to a soaring song finale.
George says of the track, “This is a song about being close. Being in touch. A “stone” away from the friends who need you. “I wanna be HERE before I'm gone” as in, while we're here we better be around. This song represents the desire to grow patiently with your friends and family and the people in your life.”
He continues, “The video is a simple story of someone discovering that he creates light, with what he was already doing naturally. Their energies—plucking kalimba and guitar, humming, dancing—are transferred to the lights. Once that discovery is made, they try to capture that light, with a camera, in hopes of preserving and sharing it. Until the end, they just play, believing that the plumes of light are spreading behind them.''
