Charli XCX feat. Troye Sivan, “Talk Talk (Remix)”
The best remixes are the ones that take the concept behind an original song and completely transform it into something new. Charli XCX and Troye Sivan accomplish just that on their rousing rendition of “Talk Talk,” retaining a handful of memorable melodies from the original song while completely remaking the track into a sweaty, intense club jam. Their vocals mesh perfectly as they talk on their respective lovers' beds, making the hype surrounding this remix much more than just talk (discussion).
Demi Lovato, “You're Gonna Be Alright, Baby”
In many ways, Demi Lovato's new documentary Star Child it's a chance to talk to their younger selves. With the documentary's theme song “You'll Be OK, Kid,” Lovato takes that idea to its literal conclusion, singing a lullaby to a younger, less experienced Demi. She warns her former self to be wary of “sharks in the water” and “thorns in roses,” but concludes with confidence that things will work out in the end.
Joy Oladokun, 'I'd Miss the Birds'
Joy Oladokun is ready to move on. On her stunning new single “I'd Miss the Birds,” the pop-folk singer-songwriter says goodbye to the city of Nashville, a place that both helped make her who she is and is also the place she's completely outgrown. Throughout her brutally honest journey, Oladokun lays bare all the things she won't miss, before admitting that leaving somewhere you've called home for so long is never easy. “But that doesn't mean I have to get stuck and suffer,” he states.
Arca & Tokischa, “Chama”
What happens when you take two of the most exciting experimental pop artists in the game and put them together on one song? You get something like 'Chama', the exciting new single courtesy of Arca and Tokischa. Throughout this pulsating anthem, the duo sexually trade lyrics in their native Spanish, which the alternating, piercing beat constantly shifts, morphs, slows down and intensifies, making “Chama” yet another piece of compelling music thanks to two artists who intend to change things.
Soccer Mom, “Guide”
If Taylor Swift admitted she might be the problem with “Anti-Hero,” then Sophie Allison (aka Soccer Mommy) thanks her beau for sticking around in “Driver” anyway. This classic indie-rock track with guitar and drums sees Alison embrace her role as the indecisive, spaced-out girlfriend, waiting for her partner to bring her back down to Earth. It's simple, effective, and a testament to Mama's staying power as a rock artist that keeps you listening to this easy-to-enjoy single.
Pale Waves, “Thinking About You”
Speaking of effective rock vibes, Pale Waves are here to prove once again how good their new era sounds. “Thinking About You” follows previous singles like “Perfume” and “Gravity” with its '90s-inspired goth-rock-meets-pop, as frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie finds herself stuck in a relationship of past, no matter how hard he tries to move. on. Smooth guitars and Baron-Gracie's soaring vocals send “Thinking About You” to new heights for the band.
