In between streams of Ariana Grande's latest album, why not listen to some new tunes from your favorite LGBTQ artists? Billboard Pride is proud to present the latest edition of Queer Jams of the Week, our collection of some of the best new music releases from LGBTQ artists.
From Girl in Red's new pop-rock jam to Maggie Lindemann's latest EP, check out some of our favorite releases from this week below:
Girl In Red I DO IT AGAIN BABY
Get ready to rock out to Girl in Red's latest anthem. “DOING IT AGAIN BABY,” the title track from the singer-songwriter's upcoming album, is a perfect slice of pop-rock drama as the Girl in Red revels in her image. Celebrating her fashion, her sound and even her taste in vintage wines, this instantly irresistible jam is sure to get you through the weekend.
Maggie Lindemann, HEAD
For all the people who get caught in their heads, Maggie Lindemann's new EP HEAD is for you. On this eight-track collection of absolute rockers, the rising star takes her classic pop-punk sound and elevates it with ease, mixing in a bit of goth-rock, hyperpop and industrial. Singing about everything from red flags (“Deprecating”) to crippling anxiety (“Taking Over Me”), Lindemann makes sure that HEAD lives up to its title, both in ear-splitting sound and mind-blowing lyrics.
Rainbow Kitten Surprise, “Superstar”
Following the departure of bassist Charlie Holt earlier this week, indie rock band Rainbow Kitten Surprise are ready to move forward with their latest single. “Superstar” sees the band take a more pop-focused approach to their established sound – beefing up the production and layering some subtle guitars that build into a powerful chorus where singer Ela Melo finds validation from her partner. From start to finish, there is no doubt that “Superstar” delivers on its promise.
Allison Ponthier, “Skin”
Leave it to singer-songwriter Alison Russell to deliver a series of heart-wrenching confessions with a gentle smile. Throughout “Skin,” the singer drops lines that will make your heart drop (“She's the people's princess, pitchfork songstress, and I'm a gross fly on the wall” land like a punch to the gut ), all while giving the dreamiest, happiest sound to date. It's a strange dichotomy that works in perfect synchronicity, as Ponthier yearns for her idealized version of herself against her most idealized song yet.
Jon Foreman feat. Joy Oladokun, “In Bloom”
You might not immediately think that the lead singer of Switchfoot and a fast-rising folk singer would make a good pair on a song – however with “In Bloom”, Jon Foreman and Joy Oladokun prove that they certainly do. Soft strums and soft drum beats underline the duo's introspective lyrics throughout the gorgeous new song, as they search for hope in a world where it often feels lacking, playing off each other's voices beautifully with each passing verse. Spring might not be here yet, but with “In Bloom,” it might be.
