Lil Nas X, “Light Again”
Ladies and gentlemen, it's Lil Nas X back. With his new single 'Light Again', the 25-year-old pop culture phenom proudly arrives ready to party, spitting on the bars about where he's headed and declaring himself the 'king and jester' of pop music. With a house-inspired production and a dancehall-adjacent bridge breakdown, Lil Nas makes sure to sink his catchy hooks into you before the song ends.
Elton John & Brandi Carlyle, “Never Too Late”
Even at 77, Elton John wants to make sure you know it's “never too late” to make a change. In his new duet with folk hero Brandi Carlile – which serves as the de facto theme song for his new self-titled documentary – John looks back on a career filled with huge, groundbreaking hits and then feeds his eyes to the future. Armed with only a piano and some light drums, John and Carlile are excellent partners on this wonderful new addition to the legend's discography.
070 Shake, Petrichor
070 Shake has always been an experimenter at heart — but with Petrichordraws this label to its maximum vision. Throughout this extraordinary new album, Shake plays with rock, pop, R&B, rap and just about every other musical idea she can think of (including a left-handed TIm Buckley cover with Courtney Love) to weave together her special story of the heartbreak. and self-assessment. He promises that he “remembers everything” on the immediate standout “Elephant” — and the rest PetrichorShe also proves it,
Cat Burns, “Teenage Dirtbag” (Wheatus cover)
If you've been to a Cat Burns show in the past few years (or, hell, if you follow her on TikTok), then you already know that the up-and-coming UK singer has an affinity for Wheatus' “Teenage Dirtbag.” Now, with her own recorded version, Burns takes the queer-bent version of the track and gives it the full treatment – guitars, drums and a surprising amount of vocal melodies as the singer implores Noelle to “listen to Iron Maiden baby. with me.” We were sold, and after your first listen, we guarantee you will be too.
Teddy Geiger & Yaeji, “Pink Ponies”
In front of of Transa full release next week, Red Hot have shared two more singles from the ambitious project for fans. While Julien Baker, Calvin Luber, SOAK, and Quinn Christopherson certainly shine in their cover of Belle and Sebastian's “Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying,” we'd like to focus on electronic star Yaeji and singer and composer Teddy Geiger. original “Pink Ponies” for a moment. In this gorgeous, hypnotic new song, both Geiger and Yaeji reflect on the often painful-yet-beautiful truth of finding yourself in another person. It's yet another stunning addition to what promises to be a deeply meaningful album.
Geordie, Sex with myself and it lasts longer
Why not wrap things up with something fun? After revealing himself (literally) on his latest album Sex with myselfJordy is here to take a victory lap with the deluxe edition of the album. Throughout his five extraordinary new numbers, Jordy keeps the original album's danceable highs intact as he takes you on a tour of his latest sexual encounters. But on closer 'Drinking of Me' Jordy lands on something different – a hyperpop-assisted kiss where he bids ex-flame goodbye with a bent middle finger. If this is the energy you've been looking for over the past few weeks, then look no further.
