Legendary UK shoegazers Ride release new album, Interaction, on March 29 via Wichita and PIAS. Now they've shared his third single, “Monaco.” Check out the song below.
We also recently published our new interview with the band about the album and you can read it here.
Ride was formed in 1988 and still consists of guitarists/vocalists Andy Bell and Mark Gardener, drummer Laurence “Loz” Colbert and bassist Steve Queralt.
Gardener said of “Monanco” in a press release: “The backing track came from the previous Ox4 Sound sessions we did and we gave it a demo name 'Monaco' as we were calling these jams and ideas we were putting together as place names. . One night during the recording sessions at Ox4 Sound the guys had all left the building and I was there with producer Richie Kennedy and an engineer. I was writing a few words about how I felt everyone was crashing in the current economic climate with the increase of energy bills and everything else. to the point where it seems now that we have to live to work instead of working to live. The song is a reflection on that feeling of how we're all fragmented and under constant financial pressure. It's kind of call to arms against it while we still have the strength to fight against it. 'Monaco' remained the ironic title, as the song is completely against the madness of the few who live in their artificial, cut-off rich bubbles in Monaco.”
Ride previously shared the album's first single, “Peace Sign.” It was one of the songs of the week. They then shared his second single, “Last Frontier,” which was also one of the songs of the week.
Interaction is the band's third album since reforming in 2014, following 2017's Weather calendars and 2019 This is not a safe place. Ride produced the album with Richie Kennedy and Claudius Mittendorfer mixed the album.
Bell had this to say Interaction In a previous press release: “This album has been a long time in the making, and has seen the band go through many ups and downs. perhaps the most of any Ride album. But it saw us enter the process as a band in a good place, feeling able to shake off the past and ready to celebrate the combined musical talents that brought us together in the first place.”
Ride are currently on a co-headlining US tour with The Charlatans. It is something that they he did last year too. The Charlatans perform their second album released in 1992, Between 10th and 11thand Ride perform their 1990 debut album, Nowhere.
