The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has revealed its class of 2024: Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Matthews Band, Cher, A Tribe Called Quest, Mary J. Blige, Peter Frampton, Foreigner and Kool & The Gang will be inducted during a ceremony. held in Cleveland on October 19.
Additionally, Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the Musical Excellence category.
Other inductees include Alexis Korner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton, who will be honored with the Musical Influence Award. Entertainment producer Suzanne de Passe will receive the Ahmet Ertegun award.
The new members were determined by an international voting body made up of more than 1,000 artists, historians and members of the music industry. To be eligible, a nominee's first recording must have been released at least 25 years ago.
Osbourne was previously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006. Last year, his wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne, criticized the Hall of Fame for not inducting Ozzy as a solo artist. “I will never beg. And I will never ask for favors. “I have never asked anyone for a favor,” she stated. “So my thing is, you'll be damned if you don't realize that someone really deserves to be here. And you don't recognize it? Then see you!
Cher is finally being inducted after first being eligible in 1991 (Sonny and Cher have not been inducted into the Hall of Fame). She lamented her snub in an interview late last year, saying she has no desire to be inducted and adding that the Hall of Fame “can just go away, you know, what.”
This year's finalists who will have to wait until 2025 for another chance include Oasis, Mariah Carey, Sade, Sinead O'Connor, Jane's Addiction, Eric B. & Rakim and Lenny Kravitz.
The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday, October 19, and will stream live on Disney+. It will also be available on Hulu following its premiere and will receive a special broadcast on ABC.
