The Rolling Stones have released the music video for the song 'Mess It Up', from their latest album, Hackney Diamonds. Check it out below.
Starring actor Nicholas Hoult, the video arrived on Tuesday, December 19 — just a few weeks after its release Hackney Diamonds himself.
It was first released as the seventh track Hackney Diamonds, 'Mess It Up' sees the Stones combine their classic, blues-rock style with a disco, modern pop approach. The rhythmic beat and distorted guitar parts in the verses give Mick Jagger's vocals a boost, as the melodic flare of the catchy, hook-led chorus transforms the track into a Stones-esque “pop bop”.
“Mess It Up” is the second track from Hackney Diamonds to receive music video therapy. In September, the Rolling Stones shared the video for their single “Angry” featuring Sydney Sweeney (which Damon Albarn called Sweeney's “horrendous” and “objective”).
Hackney Diamonds is the Rolling Stones' first album of new material since 2005 and was released last October. In his review, ConsistencyJonah Krueger celebrated the record's more stylistic songs – such as the country-esque 'Dreamy Skies' and the bluesy cover of Muddy Waters' 'Rollin' Stone' – and praised the band's achievement of “successfully [keeping] the ship floats for one more album.”
In support of the release, the Rolling Stones are set to hit the road in 2024 for a 16-city North American tour. Kicking off in April, the tour will see the band stop in cities including Las Vegas, Seattle, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles and more, before wrapping up with a final date in Santa Clara, California on July 17th. As for Hoult, he recently starred as the title character in the Nicolas Cage vampire comedy, Renfield. In May, reports arrived linking Hoult to direct James Gunn Superman: Legacy — last month, it was revealed that Hoult would play Lex Luthor.
