While many fans of Lil Nas X are complaining about his upcoming new single, the Sega Bodega dancer has some questions for the rapper regarding one of his promotional photos.
In a series of posts on his X on Wednesday (November 13), Bodega — who goes by Salvador Navarrete offstage — pointed out the similarities between a photo Lil Nas X shared in conjunction with his new project Dreamboy and the single work of art for Bodega's 2021 song “Angel on My Shoulder.” “Not even trying to put it on is where I'm like yeesh,” Bodega wrote. “Anyway, throw in 'Angel on My Shoulder.'
Bulletin board has reached out to Lil Nas X's reps for comment.
In both photos, the subjects — Bodega and Lil Nas, respectively — sit at a vintage desktop computer in dimly lit, wood-paneled rooms, while a figure of light stands directly behind them covered in white light. Lil Nas himself pointed out the similarities in a post on his Instagram Stories, sharing the artwork for “Angel on My Should” and calling it “Ref” for his new promotional photo.
When fans pointed out Lil Nas' Stories post to Bodega, the “Cicada” artist responded that he was still unhappy with the lack of recognition. Responding to a fan who called him “ungrateful” and said Lil Nas should “go away [his] Thanks,” Bodega said he couldn't tell “if that's a really good joke or not because that's literally what he did ahahaha, there's no credit.” He added that offering credit “on a photo that will disappear in 24 hours forever and without any name of artist or photographer [Aidan Zamiri]” was not enough.
The artist's complaint comes just as Lil Nas X announced the timing of his new album Dreamboyand revealed that his next single, “Light Again,” will debut on Friday (November 15). In the post where Lil Nas referenced Bodega's single art, the rapper had some heartfelt words Thank you to his fans. “I just realized how lucky I am to have all of you still hanging out with me. I know it's not always easy,” he wrote.
