Selena Gomez says so Wizards of Waverly Place it's just as magical as it was when he left.
In a recent interview with Peoplethe 32-year-old singer-songwriter talked about the process of bringing back her groundbreaking Disney Channel series through a reboot slated for release this fall. “It was like a dream,” he told the agency in a video clip posted on Tuesday (August 27).
“I really feel like it was where I started and I'll always be grateful for that time,” added the Rare Beauty founder. “I just hope this new chapter can bring a whole new audience the same joy we did when we were younger.”
The new Wizards will find Gomez reprising her role as Alex Russo, as well as executive producing. David Henry will lead the series alongside a cast of new characters, reprising his role as Justin Russo, Alex's older brother.
Fans got their first look at the reboot in May when photos arrived showing the “Single Soon” singer and her co-stars posing on set. In one photo, Gomez and Henry hold up their wands in what appears to be the same lair of wizards from the Disney Channel original series, which aired from 2007 to 2012. In another, the pair smile in a new kitchen next to the actors who play Justin's family: Alkaios Thiele, Janice Lynn Brown, Max Matenko and Mimi Gianopoulos.
The interview excerpt arrived the same day as Only murders in the buildingThe fourth season premiered on Hulu, with Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short returning to their roles as murder mystery podcasters Mabel, Charles and Oliver. The “Lose You to Love Me” artist recently earned her first Emmy nomination in an acting category for her work on the show's previous season.
