Behind her social media fame, songs, movies, red carpets and philanthropy, Selena Gomez just wants to make her family proud.
Martin Short is part of that extended family.
Gomez stopped Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night (June 26) for a meeting with her co-star Short Only murders in the building, that felt like old friends picking up where they left off.
Gomez, according to Short, is not late for a second on the set, knows every line, is a total professional.
Deflecting the praise, he remarked, “I do the best I can with what I have. And I am so grateful. And I mean my grandparents are here, I just want to make my family proud.”
The pop culture icon has a busy schedule. Having won the best actress award and a standing ovation at the Cannes Film festival after a screening of Emilia Perez, Gomez is looking ahead to a number of small screen projects. Among them, its fourth season Only murders in the buildingstarting August 27th on Hulu, and a reboot of it Wizards of Waverly Place, for which she serves as an executive producer and appears in the first episode.
“It brings me to tears because this is where I started,” he says of the 2000s sitcom, “and to honor it in this way was really incredible.”
Gomez also confessed her crush on Paul Rudd and her “dream” of working with Meryl Streep. Only Murders. “As an actor you can only dream of working with someone as great as her,” he recounts “But she'd go crazy like she was just a part of our family. She would sing songs in bare feet. And talk to everybody and… that was elegant to me. This was true class.”
Away from the spotlight, Gomez runs the cosmetics brand Rare Beauty, which is committed to raising awareness and increasing access to mental health services for young people. Gomez, who explored her own mental health struggles in Alek Keshishian's Helmet documentary My mind and I hopes to raise $100 million for good causes. “It makes sense and it's practical,” he explains.
