“Have fun with it,” instructs Emily Blunt with a hint of humor, talking about the train of her dress as she prepares to enter the main floor of the Dolby Theatre. Meanwhile, a presenter whispers into her walkie-talkie that Bradley Cooper should really be in his seat now for the top of the show, as Mark Ronson and his wife Grace Gummer gently ask for their seats. And just outside the theater, Anya Taylor-Joy slips into the lobby as Ramy Youssef is deep in conversation as Emma Stone stands behind the bar.
Yet for all the commotion, as the countdown clock soon begins – signaling the imminent start of the 96th Academy Awards – almost everyone (apart from Michelle Yeoh and Mark Ruffalo, who are testifying as the lights dim) manage to get a seat them on time. Because if this crowd knows one thing, it's not to lose their motto.
By the end of the night, Oppenheimer it had won big—taking home seven trophies, including best picture—but it was Barbie who ruled the night. Not only did the show open with host Jimmy Kimmel editing a certain sequence from the film, but Hollywood's biggest names lined up to meet Greta Gerwig during commercial breaks or take selfies with cast members (one of Ryan Gosling with Lily Gladstone it does indeed exists).
Plus, Barbie it was the only film to spawn two Best Original Hits nominated for songs. Billie Eilish and Finneas won with 'What Was I Made For' – a historic feat that made the pair the youngest two-time Oscar winners in any category – but Ryan Gosling won the room with his sublime performance of 'I' m Just Ken”. ”

The Big Announcer Reveal
Just before the screening, one man takes center stage – and he has a lot to say. “You'll be hearing from me the rest of the night,” he says, introducing actor and comedian David Alan Grier, who will be the evening's announcer.
“We're here for a long time, not too long, so keep these speeches short,” he instructs, advising against pleasing agents, reporters, accountants or anyone else. “Now I get the side eye from [those people]”, he says laughing. (And ironically, it created a running joke for the night as winners, including Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Robert Downey Jr. He made thank their journalists and accountants, respectively).
“Everybody wants to say something that will be remembered tomorrow,” Grier continues. “Remember these words: don't fuck this!”

Seeing what Billie and Finneas were really made for

Billie Eilish and Finneas are the first to perform the best original song nominee, “What Was I Made For?” The bittersweet Barbie The hit required a quiet room to hear Eilish's delicate and airy vocals over Finneas on piano – which the spellbound audience had no problem with.
As the song ended, Barbie Star and producer Margot Robbie turned to Billie and Finneas' parents sitting right behind her in the third row to give her a sympathetic smile, nodding in awe of the superstar siblings. Supporting actress America Ferrera then approaches Billie and Finn's parents, talking to them during the commercial break. And finally, once Billie and Finneas return to the main floor, they are greeted by director Greta Gerwig and Barbie music supervisor George Drakoulias as they return to their seats, giving Robbie a hug before reuniting with their proud parents.

John Cena loses it all for a bit — And lands

After host Jimmy Kimmel recalls the infamous row at the 46th Academy Awards in 1974, he signals to someone behind the scenes that it's their time to shine. Soon, that person is revealed to be an (almost) fully naked John Cena, who has been recruited to be the night's pre-approved streaker.
After some hesitation, he walks on stage with the award envelope (appropriately, for best costume) covering his nether region. Fortunately, the audience was fully on board – actually laughing and partly shocked – with Cena's own commitment. It wasn't until he fell behind the scenes of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson that he finally broke character, allowing himself to laugh at everyone else.

Lily Gladstone remains standing during her celebratory performance of “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People),” Best Original Song by Killers of the Flower Moon. Led by composer Scott George, the performance features the Osage Tribal Singers, including nine drummers and 19 others who sing and dance as a unit.
As the performance ends, Gladstone and at least two other women in the audience (both of whom also stood throughout the performance) are among the first and loudest to applaud – though an overwhelming standing ovation quickly follows.

The “I'm Just Ken” teases.
During a commercial break for those at home, the Oscars audience was treated to a teaser clip for the upcoming and highly anticipated performance of 'I'm Just Ken'. A video of actor Simu Liu (who has a supporting role Barbie) begins to perform, which he talks about to the crowd from a makeup chair backstage. He asks fans to turn on their camera lenses for the end of the “Ken” show and teases a special moment – specifically calling out Cillian Murphy, even saying he they should participate.
Soon after, as John Mulaney presents the award for best sound, the cameramen do a quick and subtle costume change, donning matching black cowboy hats and signaling that the moment so many have been waiting for is just minutes away.

Ken's Fan Club

Just offstage, a man wearing a sparkly hot pink suit and sunglasses can be seen very cool – looking somewhere far away. Sure, it's Ryan Gosling – or maybe right now, it's just Ken. He is soon waved away and back to his seat, which is right behind his Barbie co-star Margot Robbie and up against Best Original Song competitor Billie Eilish.
As the cowboy hat takes its place, Gosling's sister Mani hugs her brother for support. Robbie then turns to presumably share her own words of encouragement, after which Gosling turns to Eilish, who shakes his gloved hand before patting him on the back. Until then, Kenergy is too much – it's time.

Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish's Girl Goals
Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish have long been fans of each other. The two first met at Coachella in 2019 and are reuniting in a big way tonight. Not only did Grande appear to clap after Billie and Finneas' performance of “What Was I Made For?” but now, Grande – next door Bad co-star Cynthia Erivo – is pleased to announce the winner of Best Original Song – for which Eilish and Finneas are nominated.
Grande audibly gasps as she opens the envelope while a smile takes over her face as she announces that Billie and Finneas just won their second best original song trophy. And as soon as Billie takes the stage, she and Grande fall into a celebratory embrace. After she and Finneas give their acceptance speeches, Billie turns back to Grande and Erivo to scream silently – but as everyone starts to exit the stage, Billie and Grande can't help but let out a celebratory squeal as they embrace again – all in the girl's name, of course.
